Getting Started
Washington County Public Library offers digital versions of audiobooks for downloading to your computer and exporting to a portable listening device such as an MP3 player or an iPod. To access these materials from NetLibrary, you will need to create a free account. (Due to network bandwidth restrictions, the library requests that you do not use the public access computers for downloading eAudiobooks at this time. If you have a laptop with wireless capabilities, you can use the library's wireless connection for downloading eAudiobooks.)
Creating an Account Click on the NetLibrary link to open the homepage of NetLibrary. (Remote users may need to enter their library card number.) In the upper right corner is a link to Create a Free Account. Select a username & password. Select and answer a security question. Add your personal information and click on the Create Account button. Account Affiliation should display: Washington County Public Library. The confirmation screen will display the Basic Search function. Once you have created an account, please log in to NetLibrary (http://www.netlibrary.com) directly to download audiobooks. Note: NetLibrary refers to downloadable audiobooks as eAudiobooks. This term will be used here as well.
eAudiobook Loan Periods The loan period for eAudiobooks from NetLibrary is 3 weeks. At any point during the checkout period, you can renew your checkout for an additional 3 weeks. You may have a maximum of 10 eAudiobook titles checked out concurrently. eAudiobooks may not be checked in early.
Searching for Materials You can use the Basic Search screen from NetLibrary to identify items you would like to check out. Search fields include Full-Text, Keyword, Title, Author, and Subject. To narrow your results, select the eAudiobooks link in the top navigation bar on the results page. The Advanced Search offers more options including multiple fields, Boolean operators, and format limiting. The eAudiobook Center, which is available by clicking on the link on the NetLibrary homepage, narrows your search to eAudiobooks only.
Downloading Materials (directions for Web-Based Download option) 1. From your search results on the NetLibrary website, click the “Download this eAudiobook” link below the item record. Note: If this is not the first eAudiobook you have downloaded, skip to step 6.
2. The eAudiobook Download Options page displays. The first time you download an eAudiobook, you are given three options for this and future downloads. Three options for downloading are listed:

3. At the bottom of the page, a recommendation will be displayed.
4. Once you have selected a choice, your option will be remembered for future downloads.You can access all options through the “Download Options” link on the homepage.
5. If you choose Web-based Download, click Continue.
6. Select a file type: CD Quality or Radio Quality. For dial-up access, choose Radio Quality. Some files may not be available in Radio Quality.
7. A bar will appear announcing the successful checkout of the material.
8. Click the “download the eAudiobook” link to start the download process.
9. A File Download dialog box will display.
Listening to eAudiobooks Format and Plays On icons appear in eAudiobook Details on the NetLibrary website and in Details view in the NetLibrary Media Center. The icons show the file format of the eAudiobook and the types of devices that it plays on. Once the file is downloaded to a compatible computer, it can be transferred to a portable listening device such as music players, media centers, Pocket PCs, and even select smartphone devices.
NetLibrary provides eAudiobooks in one of two formats — Protected WMA and MP3. eAudiobooks in protected WMA format can be played on: Windows PCs and portable devices that are compatible with protected WMA format. iPods and other portable devices may not be compatible with WMA format. eAudiobooks in MP3 format can be played on iPods and other portable devices compatible with MP3 format, as well as Windows PCs, and portable devices compatible with WMA format.

- Play or transfer eAudiobook files with Windows Media Player or iTunes

- If you choose Open, the file will download and open your media player.
- If you choose Save, you can download the file to a directory.Once the download is complete, you can open the file with your media player or use Windows Explorer.
